Macchia is a small family run winery located at 7099 East Peltier Road, just outside Lodi, California. While their specialty is obviously Zinfandel, their Italian varieties have won prestigious awards at all major competitions. The name Macchia comes from the Italian word "the spot". They own no vineyards but rather source their grapes from some of California's "Best Spots". Their sources range from the Russian River up to the Sierra Foothills, and of course, several special vineyard-designated spots in their own hometown Lodi.
They prefer quality over quantity. Their customers seem to agree. They consistently sell out of current releases; usually months before the next is due, but don't worry they make more than ten different Zinfandels and up to eight Italian wines. There is always something new to taste at Macchia. Their plan is to stay on the smaller side, so Tim (owner/winemaker) can over see each individual lot. He is very hads-on. "that's why I got into the business in the first place. I love the wine making part of the business. It is my passion!" As a family-run business, you will often find his wife, Lani, working on her new marketing idea, daughter Tanya, updating the webpage or signing up a new wine club member, oldest son Jonathan, helping out in the winery and the youngest son Tyler, working in the yard.
